Feliz Dia das Mulheres Moçambicana!
Well, yesterday was the National Women’s Day holiday, thus everything was closed so Tuesday P-day this week! But, a busy week was had with Zone Conference, another family night, and 10 new investigators!
Zone Conference took up all of Wednesday, and was quite the experience. Missionaries from the Maputo Zone, Matola Zone and some outside areas all came to our chapel to listen to President Kretly and a few others. I am still dreaming about the food we had for lunch. President Kretly really focused on using the Spirit of Elijah in our teaching and now helping families get prepared to go to the temple every month. It will be a great work and help families become truly converted.
So we were blessed with several new investigators this week, but one family in particular really taught me an interesting lesson. We taught Polecaro and his wife (whose name I am not going to even attempt to spell) early in the week. They were just a contact we met on the street. We get into the lesson and start talk about the Church of Christ, and it becomes clear that they are a bit older and strong Catholics. He begins laughing and mocking our message. Yet, they accept our invitation to pray about the message and have a return visit. Honestly, I thought it was a waste of time and did not expect any progression from the family. But you see, the Lord works in mysterious ways. A few days later the return visit followed through and we asked, “Did you pray?” “How did you feel, did you get and answer?” Well yes, in fact they did, and they had the unmistakable feeling of the Spirit confirming the veracity of our message. They could not deny this feeling that they had never felt before. We invite them to church the next day, but still I am skeptical that he will follow through with this commitment. Well Sunday morning comes and as we are getting on the chapa for Church, none other than Polecaro joins us. He is the second person to arrive at church, other than the missionaries. Well, needless to say, my lesson was learned. My personal prejudices are nothing compared to the witness of the Spirit.
Some other highlights: Another successful family night. Aurelio and Marcia have been doing very well as we have visited them; and the members of the branch have also showed an outpouring of love. Also, I had my first interview with President Kretly this week!
